![]() Die when you’re in your 70s and it’s game over. As you get older, your max health decreases but your damage output increases, and certain learnable skills become locked off to you. Whenever you die, which is likely to be frequent until you learn the ropes, a counter rises by one, which corresponds to the amount of years you age. Said shortcuts are particularly useful in dealing with the game’s USP: your character aging upon death. There are collectibles to find that do fill in the story somewhat, and every one has pretty drastic shortcuts to unlock, often with keys found in later levels as part of a possible time bending gimmick? It’s not clear, but the game has definite magic in it, so it fits. Each one is distinct, has great art direction and looks gorgeous in the game’s art style. Each one has their own thing going on, having moved on since murdering you and your dad a drug den, a hardcore dojo in the back of a nightclub, an art gallery, a skyscraper and a healing sanctuary. The five make up something called the Dawn Group, who each hold a magic talisman that they intend to use to bring down “The Guardians”, but that’s all you get. Story wise, it has things going on but oddly keeps them in the background. Eight years of intensive training later, our heroine is ready to embark on a roaring rampage of revenge to fight and kill the five people involved in her father’s death. ![]() They also murder said Sifu’s twelve year old daughter (or son, you get to choose), but the artefact brings her back to life. ![]() The titular Sifu is killed in single combat by one of his pupils, who alongside four others assault his school to try and steal a magical artefact. I’ve finally played it, gotten both endings and feel ready to talk about whether it met my high expectations. It caught my eye when it was first announced, and I patiently waited for the physical version to be released this month. I’m a big Shaw Brothers fan, and I love to see kung fu turn up in videogames especially if its the focus of a game’s combat system, like Judgement and Lost Judgement. This was one of my most anticipated games this year, if not the most. ![]()
